Dance / Movement Therapy

"The American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) defines dance/movement therapy as the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive and physical integration of the individual." https://adta.memberclicks.net/

When asked how I integrate Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) into my therapeutic practice I find it difficult to explain. When you meet with me, whether specifically for Dance Therapy or not, you will be receiving an embodied approach to therapy. It's nearly impossible for me to separate Psychotherapy and DMT.

I do offer Authentic Movement as an additional resource and tool for deepening psychotherapeutic work. This is a contemplative movement practice where the mover (you) are witnessed by an outer witness (me) as a means of connecting to your own inner witness. Rooted in Jungian theory and founded by Janet Adler, Authentic Movement is a tool to support you in connecting and listening to your inner impulses, a means of accessing your most authentic embodied wisdom.

Martha Graham once said, "The body says what words cannot".

Having a trusted and compassionate witness to the parts of self that have no words is immeasurable. I seek to provide a container where the inner and the outer worlds merge, where the ego is set aside and your inner knowingness is given center stage.
